PORTER Lawrence Ray Porter, 73, husband for 50 years to Thelma Porter, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Porter, a former Air Traffic Controller will be remembered most for his resounding impact in developing Martial Arts in North East Florida. A strong man of few words, Mr. Porter led a movement that established the North Florida Martial Arts Association that exists to this day. He was a silent warrior. A rock who supported us while teaching us to stand on our own and fight the good fight. Mr. Porter, the proud father of Bryan Ray, Pamela, and Kevin; brother of Jackie Whited; proud grandfather of Bryan Lawrence and Brooke and friend since the age of 8, Everett Crews. Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008, 11:00 AM in the chapel of Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL.
